PURPOSE:To simplify constitution by eliminating the need for a paper feed roller by providing a paper detector between a separator-supplier and a belt, and an overrunning clutch, which permits a paper supply roller to rotate faster than a driving part, between the paper supply roller and the driving part. CONSTITUTION:One uppermost sheet of original 4 is fed out from paper supply roller 5 and separation roller 5A and set on an original setting glass by way of the paper detector composed of light source lamp 6A and photodetection part 6B to be exposed. Between paper supply roller 5 and shaft 17, and shaft 17 and the output side of clutch 23, overrunning clutches 22 and 21 are provided and one original 4 between both rollers 5 and 5A can be drawn back. Further, once the leading edge of original 4 is caught by belt 7, paper supply roller 5 is driven by original 4 through the operation of overrunning clutch 22 to rotate faster than shaft 17.
