PURPOSE: To obtain needlelike α-FeOOH particulate crystalline particles having a uniform particle size without contamination by dendritic particles, by the presence of a specific amount of a water-soluble stannous salt in an aqueous solution to be used for forming the needlelike α-FeOOH particles.
CONSTITUTION: In oxidizing a suspension of pH≥11 obtained by reacting an aqueous solution of a ferrous salt with an aqueous solution of an alkali with a gas containing oxygen passed therethrough, a water-soluble stannous salt in an amount of 0.1W2.0 atomic % calculated as Sn based on Fe is previously present in the aqueous solution of the alkali.
