Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled novel fibers without causing the deterioration of strength and elongation and useful for undershirts, etc., by applying a torsional strain to composite fibers consisting of sheath parts and core parts with different solubilities, etc., forming cracks on the sides of the fibers, and removing the core parts partly through the dissolution, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A trosional strain is applied to composite fibers consisting of sheath parts 1 made from a fiber forming polymer, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, and core parts 2 having a solubility diffrent from that of the sheath parts 1 to form craks 3 on the sides thereof. At least part of the core parts 2 are then dissolved or decomposed and removed to form hollow parts 4 in the core parts 2 and give the aimed fibers having complete hollow structures (B) and parts (A) opened to the fiber sides by the cracks 3. Preferably, the core parts 2 is a polyester having a decomposition rate with an alkali higher than that of the sheath part 1, and the total length of the cracks 3 is at least 1cm per meter of the fiber length.
