Abstract
PURPOSE: To make conventional hardening and tempering unnecessary and considerably cut the expenses by sphering molten iron with high pressure water and heating the resulting carbon steel particles at a temp. where the particles are only dried.
CONSTITUTION: Molten iron having 0.15W0.2% carbon content and prepared so as to adjust carbon steel particles to required hardness (HRC40W48) is sphered with high pressure water in a hot state by applying the surface tension of the iron. The resulting spherical particles are dried by heating at 150W200°C for 2min to remove the water. Thus, metallic particles having hardness and toughness fit for shot are obtd.
