Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the wear resistance and lubricating property by a method wherein the cloth made of carbon fiber is imbedded at the inner periphery of rubber part constituting a sliding seal surface.
CONSTITUTION: The main body of seal 3 consists of a reinforcing ring 4, a membrane part 5, a spring 6, and a seal lip 7. The membrane part 5 and the seal lip 7 are mainly made of synthetic rubber. The inner periphery of the seal lip 7 contacting with the outer periphery surface of the shaft 1 is constituted of the sliding seal surface S. The spring 6 raises the intensity of the contact pressure of the sliding seal surface. The cloth 8 is imbedded in rubber in the manner as follows: i.e. the cloth 8 made of carbon fibre is place in the vicinity of the external phase of the inner periphery of the seal lip 7, while the cloth 8 is placed in a metal mold. The cloth is pressurized and heated together with rubber to be vulcanized, resulting in being imbedded in rubber. As a result, at the part constituting the sliding seal surface S of the seal lip 7, the carbon fiber cloth and rubber coexist with each other.
