Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a polymer within a short time using a small amount of a catalyst, by suspension-polymerizing a vinyl chloride monomer with the aid of a mixed catalyst containing α-cumyl peroxyneodecanoate and a dialkyl peroxy-dicarbonate.
CONSTITUTION: One hundred (100) pts.wt. vinyl chloride monomer alone or mixture containing a predominant proportion of a vinyl chloride monomer and a monomer copolymerizable therewith is suspension-polymerized with the aid of 0.05W 0.15pt.wt. mixed catalyst containing, at a mol ratio of 1:0.1W0.8, α-cumyl peroxyneodecanoate and dialkyl peroxydicarbonate wherein the alkyl groups have 2W8 carbons, such as dibutoxyethyl peroxydicarbonate or diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate. It is possible to complete the polymerization within a short time. Besides, the PVC thus produced shows thermal stability comparable to that of PVC prepared by polyerizing the monomer for a long time by a conventionl process.
