Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain inexpensively the titled compound useful as a synthetic raw material for cephalosporin type antibiotic, by reacting an oxyphenylacetic ester with potassium tertiary butoxide and dialkyl carbonate, followed by hydrolyzing partially the reaction product.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by the formula I (R1 is 1W5C alkyl; X is H, 1W5C alkyl, aralkyl, 1W5C alkoxy, aralkoxy- is reacted with potassium tertiary butoxide and a compound shown by the formula II (R2 is 1W5C alky) in the presence or absence of an aprotic organic solvent, e.g. benzene, etc. at -20W200°C, to give a compound shown by the formula III. This compound is partly hydrolyzed in an alkali solution, and, if necessary, under heating, to give a compound shown by the formula IV. In the amounts of the starting materials used, 1mol compound shown by the formula I is used with 2W10mol potassium tertiary butoxide and 2W50mol dialkyl carbonate.
