Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the settling characteristic of activated sludge in a settling tank and prevent the outflow of the activated sludge into a treated water tank by supplying clean water such as treated water into the settling tank when activated sludge precipitation rate degrades or when there is the possibility of this.
CONSTITUTION: A pump P4 and a piping H are provided to permit returning of treated water W from a treated water tank 5 into a settling tank 4. If necessary, a sensor S which measures the precipitation rate (SV) of activate sludge in the tank is provided in an activated sludge tank 3, and when said precipitation rate SV lowers below the set value, said P4 is run to return the treated water W into the tank 4. When the precipitation rate SV restores the set value, the operation of said pump P4 is stopped. Despite the occurrence of bulking in the activated sludge treatment device, the outflow of the activated sludge from the tank 4 is prevented and only the clean treated water is conducted into the treatment tank 5.
