Abstract

PURPOSE:To automate pattern recognition of blood cell species by pretreating a supravital stained blood film specimen with a reagent consisting of an immersion oil and an org. solvent, them computer-processing the video signal and the like obtained from a microscope. CONSTITUTION:The supravital stained film specimen obtained by mixing and treating blood and staining liqiud is immersed for a prescribed time in an org. solvent mixed reagent, such as immersion oil-xylene of 1:9-1:19 ratios by using a pretreating device not illustrated, after which it is dried to allow the org. solvent to evaporate. The resultant specimen is set in a microscope 44. A TV camera 46 and a blood cell detector 58 are connected to the microscope 44, and the microspoce is automatically focused by the signal from the detector 58. Further, the blood cell detection signal of the detector 58 is inputted to a character extracting circuit 54 through computers 60, 56. The blood cell image signal from the camera 46 is inputted to an image monitor 50, a display device 52 and an image memory 48. The charactrs of the blood cells are extreacted and are made quantitative by the circuit 54 and the blood cell species are recognized with the computer 56.
