Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily manufacture an electrical contact material contg. no useless part by internally oxidizing an Ag alloy material while allowing one surface of the material to contact with an oxygen atmosphere and the other surface with an inert gaseous atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: One surface of an Ag alloy material is allowed to contact with an oygen atmosphere, and the other surface with an inert gaseous atmosphere. The material is internally oxidized in this state to obtain electrical contact material 11 composed of layer 8 contg. sparsely dispersed oxide on the other surface 7 side and Ag-oxide layer 10 having satisfactory contact characteristics and ranging from the one surface 9 side to layer 8. Since contact material 11 contains no useless part, the thickness can be reduced and the starting materials can be saved.
