Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound having highly increased reaction rate and reactive even at room temp., by the reaction of a nitroparaffin with an alkylphenyl carbonate in liquid phase using an aprotic polar solvent in the presence of cyanogen ions.
CONSTITUTION: A nitroparaffin of formula I (R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, or phenyl) which is easily available in an industrial scale and an alkylphenyl carbonate of formula II (Ar is phenyl; R3 is alkyl) which is easily obtained from phosgene and a phenol or an alcohol in high yield, are made to react in an aprotic polar solvent, e.g. dimethyl sulfoxide, in the presence of cyanogen ions, e.g. KCN or cyanogen ion-type anion exchange resins, at 0W100°C for 10minW20hr. The reaction solution is controlled at ≤pH4, partitioned, dried, distilled under vacuum, etc. to give the objective compound of formula III.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of α-nitrocarboxylic acids which are the raw materials of amino acids, e.g. phenylalanine, dopa, etc.
