Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify sewage discharged from a plant with high efficiency under a stable condition, by arranging a packing member having cavities in the bottom of a water channel for breeding a floating or water-extracting aquatic plant of a terrestrial vascular plant.
CONSTITUTION: Sewage flowing through a conduit 11 into a distribution ditch 12 flows through a pit 13 to a water channel 1. The sewage inflow is changed to a turbulent flow by a weight 5, and slowly passes through a gently current zone between a root-surrounding part 9 and a bottom muddy part 10. During the passage of the sewage through the gentle current zone, suspensoids in the sewage come in contact with the root-surroundings of the plant and the bottom mud, and adhere thereto. A part of the suspensoids is coagulated and forms bulky flocks. The flocks are precipitated in a sedimentation vessel 15. The precipitated sludge is periodically discharged by a pump 16, while the purified water which passed over the sedimentation vessel 15 is discharged over a movable sluice 17 into a drain groove 18.
