Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the light signal output and the oscillation wavelength for PCM communication or the like by a method wherein the temperature of the laser element is detected by an interface voltage and the control of the temperature and the stabilization of the interface voltage are performed by said detected output. CONSTITUTION:A temperature controlling circuit 1a is attached to a circuit adapted to take out a light signal from a laser element 3 by direct modulation of a bias current applied thereon with a driving circuit 1. This circuit subtracts a drop in the voltage due to a series resistance component RS of the element from the terminal voltage thereof and detects an interface voltage V which is amplified and detected to obtain a DC bias component. A differential signal between the DC bias component being amplified and detected and the reference voltage activates a temperature controlling element 8. This can stabilize the temperature of a laser element 3 to ensure a stable light output thereby preventing changes in the oscillation wavelength other- wise caused by variation of the temperature. The stabilization circuit is added with a circuit adapted to control the amplitude of a driving pulse current by detecting deterioration in the pulse amplitude with a light output behind the laser element 3 to stabilize the output against secular change of the element.
