Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a solvent and a reagent having improved thermal stability industrially and advantageously, by reacting dithioacetal S-oxide with a peroxide anion.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are H, alkyl or aryl; R3 and R4 are alkyl or aryl) is reacted with a peroxide anion of formula II (R is H, alkyl or acyl) to give a dithioacetal S,S-dioxide of formula III. The peroxide anion of formula II is obtained by reacting a base with hydrogen peroxide or hydroperoxide, and generating the peroxide anion in equilibrium. The sulfinyl group which is more difficultly oxidized than the thio group can be selectively and simply oxidized by the compound of formula III in one molecule of the compound expressed by formula II.
