Abstract
PURPOSE:To miniaturize a switch for three-phase short circuit into a two-phase configuration by turning on the switch for three-phase short circuit on an armature winding under the condition of turning off a field breaker wherein the field breaker is then turned on to apply braking to a synchronous machine by flowing an exiciting current to a field winding. CONSTITUTION:In braking the synchronous machine to stop, the three-phase short circuit is applied to an armature 1 at terminals 6 by a disconnecting switch 4 after a field winding 2 is made in no exciting condition by turning off the field breaker 3 on the condition that the terminals 6 are electrically isolated from a system. At that time, the synchronous machine creates no voltage at the main circuit terminals 6 and is composed of a mechanical system only. Therefore, a two-pole configuration is enough for the disconnecting switch 4. Then, a short current is flowed into a circuit including the armature 1 and the disconnecting switch 4 by turning on the field breaker 3 to supply the field coil 2 with a required exciting current through a separate power unit 5 for excitation and ohmic loss generated in the circuit contributes to the braking of the synchronous machine together with mechanical loss or the like.
