Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent sorbitol from becoming massive or caking, during storage, by mixing sorbitol powder in a mixer at specific temperatures for a specific time, and stoppoig the growth of the trichite on the particle surface in the vertical direction.
CONSTITUTION: Sorbitol powder is mixed in a mixer in which particles can be warmed, at 50°C or higher and lower than the melting point of the sorbitol, for 10min to 3hr. The development of trichite on the sorbitol particles surface is promoted under warming, and the friction or collision among the particles and between them and the inner wall of the mixer caused by mixing bend the direction of the trichite. The surface of the treated particles are covered with the developed trichite. The resultant sorbitol has no exposed crystal face having directional, property and the growth of the trichite in the vertical direction is inhibited. This method may prevent the sorbitol from becoming massive and caking because of the grown and tangled trichite.
