Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect a height of the piston by a method wherein a pressure difference between the upper and lower surfaces of the piston is sensed at a plurality of points on an outer circumferential side wall of a gas holder.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of sensors 5 are arranged with an equal pitch in a vertical direction at an outer circumferential part of the side wall 2 of the cylinder gas holder having a bottom surface 3. Each of the sensors 5 senses if the piston 4 is located over or below the sensor by sensing a pressure difference between the upper and lower planes of the piston 4. Output signal from the sensor 5 is displaced by illuminating lights 9 arranged on a circular level indicating scale plate. No mechanical disadvantages due to wire cutting, wire extension etc. are made as compared with a conventional mechanical sensing by wire rope.
