Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the aluminum alloy foil capable of insuring a large surface area by etching treatment by a method wherein the molten aluminum alloy containing Mn and Cu in a specific ratio is continuously cast and rolled and, after held at a specific temp., cold rolling is carried out.
CONSTITUTION: The molten aluminum alloy consisting of 0.1W0.9% Mn, 0.1W 0.6% Cu and the remainder of Al and inevitable impurities is cast and rolled by a molten metal direct rolling process to prepare the plate like aluminum alloy material with a texture comprising a solid solution phase almost free from precipitate. The said material is heated to a temp. of 400W600°C to uniformly disperse and precipitate a fine Al-Mn type compound throughout said material. Sabsequently, without carrying out hot rolling, direct cold rolling is applied to form a texture containing said fine Al-Mn compound uniformly dispersed in said material. Therefore, by applying etching treatment, the aluminum alloy foil for a cathode with an extremely large surface area while strength thereof is maintained is obtained.
