Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce irregular shape articles easily from metal materials which are not in the form of powder by combining and disposing solid blank materials in a manner as to coincide approximately with the surface shape of dies, loading and sealing these in a capsule and subjecting the capsule to hot hydrostatic pressing.
CONSTITUTION: Solid metal blank materials 1aW1g are suitably disposed approximately along the surface shape of a die 3, and are loaded into a capsule 2 for hot hydrostatic pressing. Air is vented from a deaerating pipe 4 provided to the upper cap 2a of the capsule 2, and the pipe 4 is sealed hermetically by forge-welding. Thence, the capsule 2 is charged into a hot hydrostatic pressing furnace, where it is treated for about one hour in, for example, an Ar gas atmosphere of about 1,150°C and about 1,000 atmospheric pressure. Thereby, the materials 1aW1g are plastically deformed along the shape of the die 3 and the respective blank materials are mutually diffusibly bonded to develop firm bond, thus the molding and bonding is accomplished simultaneously. A material which does not cause plastic deformation in hot hydrostatic pressing is selected for the die material.
