Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable measurement of the flatness of a plane plate in the width and longitudinal direction thereof without being influenced by outside turbulence by a method wherein a plurality of slender light images extending in the direction of the width of the plate and separated at uneven intervals are projected and formed on the plane plate nonvertically and picked up at once by a two-dimensional pickup device. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam generating device 4 is provided above the upstream side of a steel plate 1 which is carried, a laser beam LB is emitted in the direction of an axis Y be rotating an eight-face mirror 5 and the reflection light of the beam is picked up by a pickup device 3. Since the mirror faces 56-58 and 54-51 of the eight-face mirror 5 are titled sequentially at an angle different to each other to a central axis 50, a picture picked up by the pickup device 3 turns to be eight slender light images separated at unequal intervals.
