Abstract
PURPOSE: In hydraulic lifter which is provided in a movable valve mechanism for an internal combustion engine, to prevent the hydraulic oil in a reservoir chamber from flowing outside, by making up the hydraulic lifter such a manner that when a fulcrum is positioned at the highest level, a communication passage between the reservoir chamber and the atmosphere is shut off.
CONSTITUTION: This hydraulic lifter 1 is made up in such a manner that a plunger 4 is disposed inside a cylindrical body 3 so as to take a sliding motion and a fulcrum 5 and a check valve 6 are provided at the head and the bottom of the plunger 4, respectively. The interior of the plunger 4 is a reservoir chamber 7 whose intercommunication with a pressure chamber 9 is placed under a control of the check valve 6. passages 18, 19 are made through the fulcrum 5 and the passage 18 can be communicated through a passage 21 with a passage 20 formed through the upper part of the plunger. No external force acts on the fulcrum 5 because when the plunger 4 is pushed up by a spring 10 until a step 22 contacts a seal member of a ring 12, intercommunication of annular clearances 23, 24 to which the passage 20, 21 respectively open is shut off.
