Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify wastewater and recover clean water, by forming a soil layer on an inclined base which is hardly permeable to water and purifying wastewater discharged at the upper sloped place by inducing a capillary phenomenon in the soil.
CONSTITUTION: Soil layer 2 of less than 50cm in thickness is formed on clayey base rock 1 which has a slight slope angle and a vary small coefficient of permeability, and plenty of plants 6 are planted on the surface. Soil layer 2 is to be composed of, from the top to the bottom, humus soil layer 5, thick layer 4 of soil having a large coefficient of permeability, and thin layer 3 of soil having a small coefficient of permeability. Discharge pipe 8 of wastewater to be purified is burried in soil layer 4 and water tank 7 made of a material which is not permeable to water, such as synthetic resin, etc., is installed below pipe 8. The wastewater discharged from discharge pipe 8 is contained once in water tank 7, and then overflows from the tank and flows down along the slope through soil layer 4. The water percolates through soil layers 4 and 3 and is purified by means of an induced capillary phenomenon, and then the percolated water oozes out from the foot of slope to the drainway. Moreover, part C of the wastewater is absorbed by the roots of plats 6.
