Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled powder capable of being stored for a long time by a simple means, by cooling an aqueous solution of sodium cephalothin containing an organic solvent so that crystal of sodium cephalothin is precipitated, followed by lyophilizing it.
CONSTITUTION: After an aqueous solution of sodium cephalothin containing an organic solvent (e.g., methanol, ethanol, etc.) is filtered sterly, and fed to a vial sterly, and cooled quickly to not higher than -40°C in a lyophilizing dryer. After the aqueous solution is frozen, its temperature is raised to about -10°C. The solution is again cooled to about -40°C, vacuum drying is carried out carefully while the temperature of a shelf is raised, to give crystalline powder of sodium cephalothin. The time needed for crystalization is shorten extremely, the shape of the crystal is smaller than that of the conventional method, and it is very stable.
