Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the continuation of the ignition of an engine even if an electronic ignition calculation circuit is abnormal or expected to become abnormal, by combining an ignition system based on the calculation circuit with that based on a fixed ignition circuit. CONSTITUTION:A calculation circuit monitor 4 checks the operating condition of an electronic ignition calculation circuit 5 to supply an output signal of low level when the calculation circuit is not in operation but to supply an output signal of high level when the calculation circuit is in operation. The electronic ignition calculation circuit 5 receives information from an engine rotation sensor 8 and other various kinds of sensors 10 to calculate ignition time and supply a calculated ignition pulse. When the calculation circuit 5 is abnormal or expected to become abnormal, a fixed ignition pulse which is the output of a fixed ignition pulse generation circuit 9 is applied to an igniter 12 instead of the calculated ignition pulse which is the output of the electronic ignition calculation circuit 5.
