Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a uniform amorphous metal sheet which is broad and is free from defects such as pitting by regulating the shape and disposition of a nozzle body under specific conditions at the time of extremely quickly cooling molten metal by ejecting the same from the nozzle onto a water-cooled roll revolving at high speed thereby producing the amorphous metal sheet.
CONSTITUTION: An amorphous metal sheet is produced by supplying molten metal 4 into a nozzle body 1 of a semicircular shape in the section of the lower part, ejecting the molten metal 4 onto a water-cooled metal roll 3 revolving at a 1,500m/min. peripheral speed through a slit 2 and quickly cooling the same with the roll 3 at extra high speed. In this case, the radius R of the arc part of the nozzle body 1 is set at 5W20mm, the angle θ at which the slit 2 tilts in the roll revolving direction from the arc surface center of the nozzle body to the nearest point of the nozzle body 1 and the water cooled roll 3 at 5W20°, the gap length (a) of the slit 2 at 0.2W0.8mm, and the gap (b) between the nozzle body 1 and the roll 3 at ≤0.03mm, whereby the uniform broad amorphous metal sheet free from pitting is obtained.
