Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to carry out a continuous suspension polymn. of vinyl chloride, by a method wherein a scale-preventing agent-contg. vinyl chloride raw material to be polymerized is introduced into the first polymerizer, and subjected to a suspension polymn. reaction at an elevated reaction temperature higher than those of the second polymerizer connected to the first polymerizer and succeeding polymerizers.
CONSTITUTION: In a process for the suspension polymn. of vinyl chloride monomer alone or a vinyl monomer mixt. composed mainly of vinyl chloride in an aq. medium contg. a suspending agent and a polymn. initiator, a plurality of polymerizers are used which are successively connected to each other. A raw material for polymn., to which a scale-preventing agent is added, is introduced into the first polymerizer 1, where a polymn, reaction is carried out at a temp. whicn is 2W10°C higher than that at which the desired weight-average polymn. degree can be obtd. unitl the reactants pass through a sticky state. Then the reaction suspension is in turn transferred to succeeding polymerizers intermittently or continuously. In the second polymerizer 2 and the suceeding polymerizers, the polymn. is carried out at a reaction temp. lower than that of the first polymerizer.
