Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a hollow cam shaft of decreased weight by inserting a core made by inserting a pipe serving as an oil feed port into the shaft inside part and forming cast holes on the circumference of said pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe 4 having an optimum inside diameter size as an oil feed port is coated with core sand 5 such as shell sand and is molded, whereby a core 6 is made. At this time, the pipe 4 is partially coated with the core sand 5 to provide pipe exposed parts 7 in several places. This core 6 is put and set in the cavity of a mold for casting cam shaft and molten metal is poured into the cavity, whereby a cam shaft 1 is molded. Next, the core 5 is dropped by vibration of the like, whereby the hollow parts 8 are formed around the pipe 4. Next, the supporting parts 9 where the cast metal directly contacts with the pipe 4 are pierced from the outside part of the shaft 4, whereby oil feed ports 10 are formed.
