Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the remaing height of a porous plug safely and accurately by reading out the diameter of the remaing part on the surface of the porous plug positioned on the bottom of a metallurgical vessel by means of an optical measuring device secured to the position separated from the vessel heated at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:Diameter x=X1X2 of the intersection between permeable plug 1 and the bottom of metallurgical vessel 3 is measured by shifting optical axis A1X1 of an optical measuring device up to A2X2 along with a line parallel with line X1X2 set up on the outside of vessel 3. In addition to the value of (x), the remaining thickness of the plug can be measured from the taper attached to permeable plug 1.
