Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the SNR, resolving-power, directivity, detection distance and communication distance of a parametric active sonar by employing a sonar transmitter using a diced ceramic oscillator and a cylindrical sonar receiver having a reflecting body. CONSTITUTION:The signal having two frequency components from the oscillation/ modulation circuit 13 is amplified in the transmission unit 14 and radiated via the sonar transmitter 15 into the sound-field medium as a sound wave. The sound wave of the differential frequency component generated according to the nonlinearity of the sound-field medium is reflected by a foreign substance 16 in the medium and received by the sonar receiver 17. The signal processed in the reception unit 18 is displayed on the recording/display unit 19 as the position of the foreign substance 16, the intensity of the echo and the like. A diced ceramic oscillator is used in the sonar transmitter 15, and a cylindrical sonar receiver having a reflecting body is used as the sonar receiver 17.
