PURPOSE:To enable measurement whereover the position of an AE generating source is located by processing the output signal of an AE sensor near to the AE generating source and thereby performing locating operation of the position, evaluation of soundness, etc. CONSTITUTION:An arriving time difference measuring circuit C1 discriminates the sequence of arrival of each AE signal received by the AE sensors S1-Sn and measures the difference in the time of arrival between the 1st arrival signal and the other arrival signals. In addition, the outputs of the AE sensors S1-Sn are impressed on an AE signal selecting circuit C3 through the intermediary of delay circuits D1-Dn, and by an AE signal selecting signal S, required numbers of signals in precedence starting from the 1st arrival signal are delivered. And, an AE processing device C2 conducts locating operation of the position of the AE generating source according to time differences T1-2, T1-3 and T1-4, measuring the peak value, duration, etc. of the AE signals AE1-AE4. By this constitution, measurement of the peak value and the like by the output of the AE sensor near to the AE generating source is made possible and thereby uncertainty due to attenuation of AE wave can be avoided.
