Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the positions and shapes of a melt-stuck zone by lowering sensor cords together with the raw materals in a blast furnace, and sending pulse signals to these sensor cords thereby grasping the positions and shapes of the melt- stuck zone.
CONSTITUTION: Raw materials 1 are charged from the top 2a of a blast furnace 2 and pile up. If a plurality of sensor cords 3 perpendicularly lowered via sheaves 4 in the radial direction of the blast furnace, the cords 3 descend as well by being dragged by the descending of the raw materials 1 along with the progression of the operation. The cords 3 are made of a material which melts at the temp. of a melt- stuck zone 5, and therefore if the cords 3 descend and arrive at the melt-stuck zone 5, they break. Next, pulse signals of light or electricity are sent from a pulse transmitter 8 via a scanner 7 to the cords 3, and if the time when the signals reflected from the broken ends return is obtained with a measuring device 8, the lengths of the vertical parts of the sensor cords 3 are obtained, whereby the positions and shapes of the melt-stuck zone 5 may be grasped.
