Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove alcohols easily through simple operation by allowing an org. solvent contg. alcohols to contact a dried H type strong acidic cation exchange resin.
CONSTITUTION: This is a method for removing a slight amount of alcohol in an org. solvent without depending upon distillation, said alcohols are alcohols of ≤3 carbon number, for example, methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol and glycerol. The removal is performed in the state that the alcohols are mixed in an arbitrary org. solvent. The storng acidic cation exchange resin used for the adsorption of alcohols may be either gel type or porous type, and this is used after it is regenerated with an acid to H type followed by sufficient drying. The org. solvent contg. alcohols may be in the form of either liquid or gas. Any contact method is used by it is preferable to flow the solvent contg. alcohols in the packed bed of the exchange resin upward at ordinary temp.
