Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the optical isomer of the titled phenylglycine derivative which is a synthetic raw material for penicillin, etc. readily in high purity, by reacting a racemate of the titled phenylglycine derivative with an optically active amine, and resolving the resultant novel salt optically.
CONSTITUTION: A racemate of m-hydroxyphenylglycine derivative expressed by formula I (R1 is H, acetyl or benzoyl; R2 is methyl, chloromethyl or phenyl) is reacted with an optically active α-phenylethylamine, dehydroabietylamine or cinchonine to give the corresponding novel salt, which is then subjected to the optical resolution by the fractional crystallization method, etc. The resultant optically active salt is treated with an acid or alkali, and if necessary hydrolyzed to give an optically active m-hydroxyphenylglycine of formula II (R3 is H, acetyl, etc.).
USE: The D-antipodal agent is very useful as a synthetic raw material for penicillin and cephalosporin.
