Abstract
PURPOSE: To synthesize methane efficiently at a high temp. by supporting a catalytic component consisting of a nickel-molybdenum alloy and molybdenum carbide to a porous carrier to enhance heat resistance and utilize reaction heat availably.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of nickel oxide and molybdenum oxide or a good mixture thereof is supported to a porous carrier and the resulting supported carrier is subjected to hydrogen treatment at 400W900°C and, thereafter, treated by a gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide at 500W800°C or treated by a gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide at 500W800°C without carrying out said hydrogen treatment to obtain the heat resistant catalyst for preparing methane. As said porous carrier, alumina, silica or titania is used and a nickel content in the catalyst is pref. 3W30wt% as NiO and a molybdenum content is pref. 5W30wt% as MoO3.
