Abstract
PURPOSE: To accomplish smokeless combustion, by providing a combustion chamber having three regions disposed inward from the top surface of a piston, and shaping these three regions in particular forms, so as to distribute fuel effectively and to obtain uniform mixture promptly.
CONSTITUTION: A combustion chamber employed in a diesel engine consists of the first region 1 opened in the top surface of a piston P, the second region 2 located just under the first region 1, and the third region 3 located under the second region 2. Here, the first region 1 is defined as a conical bore the diameter of which is increased from the top toward the bottom, so that the diameter D1 of the top opening 11 is made smaller than that D2 of the inner peripheral wall 12 located downwardly of the opening 11. The second region 2 is defined as a bore surrounded by a toroidal wall surface 21, which is shaped to have an arcuate surface drawn around the center X of an imaginary annular tube R1. Further, the third region 3 is defined by a conical inner peripheral wall surface 31, the diameter of which is increased toward the above, and a bottom surface 32 formed along an imaginary annular tube R2.
