Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a highly abrasion resistant covered connected carbide cutting tool by a method wherein Al2O3 is covered on Si which has been diffused on the surface of film of TiC, titanium carbonitride, and TiN, etc. formed on the surface of cemented carbide base material. CONSTITUTION:A cemented carbide base material consisting of one or more carbides, carbonitrides, or nitrides of metals periodic table IVa, Va, and VIa groups, and one or more among Fe, Co, and Ni for example, JIS B4104 K10 is prepared. The base material is evaporated with the first coated layer of one or more TiC, titanium carbonitride, and TiN in thickness of 2-8mu. On the surface of the first layer, evaporated Si layer is formed by means of evaporation method, then Al2O3 in 2-5mu thickness is evaporated thereto as the second layer. It is necessary to limit the total thickness to 5-13mu. The process provides covered cemented carbide cutting tools in which bonding strength of Al2O3 to cemented carbide base material is greatly enhanced.
