Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove H2S from crude CO2 gas containing H2S as an impurity, in high efficiency, by contacting the CO2 gas with activated carbon carrying a halogen or a halogen compound in the presence of water.
CONSTITUTION: Crude carbon dioxide gas containing H2S as an impurity, usually the combustion gas of a boiler fueled with metallurgical coke or a coal-fueled oven, is purified by contacting with activated carbon carrying a halogen or a halogen compound, such as KI, KBr, etc. The gas to be purified is humidified to a relative humidity of about 0.05W95% before treatment. Treatment of gas humidified to the above extent with the above activated carbon results in efficient removal of H2S and the peparation of purified CO2 gas. When the CO2 gas to be treated is essential ly free of oxygen, the removal of H2S can be achieved more effectively.
