Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the size of the suspension and to save the mounting space thereof on the vehicle body by arranging a rod and a damper in parallel.
CONSTITUTION: When a steering arm 32 rotates through a bearing 31, the rod 22 moves circularly in the same direction. This circular motion is transmitted to a pair of upper and lower axle brackets 4 and 35. The axle bracket 35 transmits the motion it receives to an outer tube 6 in the same direction. The outer tube 6, then, transmits the motion to the axle bracket 4 through an engagement between an engaging groove (b) provided in the lower end of the outer tube 6 and a bolt 21 fixed to the bracket 4. The axle bracket 4 is mounted with a sled 3 through a bracket 5 and a shaft 5a. Therefore, the motion is transmitted to the sled 3 so as to change the direction of the sled 3 by an amount and in a direction corresponding to the steering angle. Since the sled 3 is interposed in a body frame, the shock from the sled 3 can be absorbed by a damper 2. Further, since the damper 2 is interposed between the vehicle body 1 and the sled 3, the damper 2 can have a stroke of a sufficient length and also works as a rigidity member.
