Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the denitrating catalyst of high strength and activity for a selective contact reduction process, by changing a molded piece of calcium silicate into a carbonate to prepare a carrier, dipping the carrier in silica sol and then in catalyst slurry, drying the carrier and baking it.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon dioxide gas is brought into contact with the molded piece of calcium silicate to prepare the carrier of a complex substance comprising silica and calcium carbonate. The carrier is dipped in a colloidal solution which is prepared by dispersing very fine grains of a silicic anhydride in water. After taht, the carrier is dipped in slurry which contains an oxide of titanium, vanadium or the like. The carrier is then dried an baked, thereby manufacturing a catalyst for removing NOX from the waste gas by the selective contact reduction process. The carrier of the catalyst retains a strong structure even if there is SOX in the waste gas. The silica sol of the catalyst reinforces the adhesiveness between the carrier and the catalytic constituent. As a result, the strength and activity of the catalyst are kept high.
