Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure that a combustion sensor can be detect incomplete combustion, if any, occurring at a part of all burners by a method wherein a portion of combustion exhaust gases is caught at a position where the exhaust gases from plural burners collect and is directed to the electrode surface of the combustion sensor. CONSTITUTION:A high-temperature solid electrolyte having oxygen-ionic conductivity such as zirconia is formed in a cylindrical shape and sintered to a solid electrolyte body 13. Gas-permeable porous electrode surfaces 14 and 15 are formed on the inside and outside surfaces of the body 13, to constitute a combustion sensor 11. The sensor 11 is arranged above, and faced to, a part of a main burner portion 19 consisting of plural main burners 22 of a gas flash boiler, for example, so that the electrode surface 15 is heated by a flame F1. An exhaust-gas catcher 29 is arranged in the outlet of an exhaust cylinder 18 of a heat exchanger drum 17, a portion of exhaust gases caught by the catcher 29 is directed through a conduit 30 into the through-hole 12 of the sensor 11, and passed through the sensor 11 while contacting the electrode surface 14.
