Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an uniform and coamparatively thick paint film on the surface of a base material by the procedure in which a metal base material is dipped in a bath of an aqueous paint having a specific viscosity and solid content and then a fixed voltage is applied across the base material and the bath, etc., for a short time.
CONSTITUTION: A metal base material is dipped in a bath of an aqueous paint having a viscosity (Ford cup No.4) of 10W80sec (at 20°C) and a solid content of 25W 50wt%, preferably 30W45wt%, and then a 10W200V voltage is applied across the metal base material being dipped and the bath or/and an electrode separately provided for 1W30sec, preferably a 20W200V voltage is applied for 5W15sec., resulting in the formation of a thick and uniform paint film on the surface of the metal base material. In case where the film-forming resin used in the aqueous paint is a cationic resin, for example, in applying voltage, the metal base material is made cathode, the bath is coated with an insulator, and an anode, e.g., carbon, etc., is provided in the bath. Whereas, in case the resin is an anionic resin, the metal base material is made anode.
