Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a lead alloy used as lead storage battery grating substrate and suited to continuous casting production by incorporating a specific amount of Sb, Sn and further Ag into Pb.
CONSTITUTION: As lead storage battery grating substrate lead alloy, a Pb alloy used contains Sb: 0.1W1.0wt%, Sn: 0.1W0.5wt%, or Sb+Sn: 0.1W1.0wt%. This alloy is excellent in casting property, is easy to provide a plate material by continuous cast production, and thus facilitates press punch operation to produce grating substrate. By adding Ag in amount of 0.01W0.10wt%, corrosion resistance of the Pb alloy greatly enhances. Although the press punch method features an easy production of fine grating, the production yield of grating substrate is rather low. However, continuous casting process available compensates for this disadvantage, so that fine thin plate grating substrates are mass-produced and cost is reduced.
