Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily and quickly measure a quantity, by mixing phosphoric acid with an aqueous solution containing an inorganic carbon compound such as carbonic acid, bicarbonic acid, their salts or dissolved carbon dioxide while heating the aqueous solution and by causing an inert gas to accompany produced carbon dioxide and introducing them into a carbon dioxide detection tube.
CONSTITUTION: The volume of an aqueous solution containing an inorganic carbon compound is measured so that the solution is introduced through an inlet port 3 into a vaporizer 2 containing phosphoric acid 1. A plug 4 is fitted in the inlet port 3. The vaporizer is heated at a prescribed temperature by a heater 5. Produced carbon dioxide is accompanied by an inert gas such as nitrogen or air injected into the phosphoric acid 1 through a valve 6, an absorbent liquid vessel 7 containing an aqueous solution of alkali 7A and a gas diffusion pipe 8. The produced carbon dioxide and the inert gas pass through a cooler 9 and a dehumidifier 10 and enter into a carbon dioxide detection tube 11. The carbon dioxide reacts with a filled agent in the detection tube 11 depending on the quantity of the carbon dioxide to color the agent. The inert gas is discharged by a pump 12. The quantity of the carbon dioxide is determined in terms of the length of the colored layer of the filled agent. The quantity of inorganic carbon is determined from a detection diagram previously made under the same condition.
