Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable incident light to be separated for every wave length and electrically changed over at a high speed to different optical paths by using the crystal having electro-optic effect in a light information system. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of electrodes 3, 4 of respectively mutually different periods are subsequently provided along the transmission direction of light 2 on the surface of the crystal 1 exhibiting the electro-optic effect wherein the optical refractive index ellipsoid rotates when electric fields are applied. The voltages from generators 13, 14 are applied to the respective electrodes. Double refractive material 6 is provided on the exit side of the crystal 1. When the voltage is applied only to the electrodes 3, incident light lambda1 is separated to exit light 8 and incident light lambda2 to exit light 7. When the voltage is applied to the electrodes 4 only, exit light is obtainable in the opposite positions.
