Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the signal detection error rate dependent upon the amplitude discrimination system by improving amplitude fluctuation of a reproducing signal, which is differentiated for peak detection, by an LPF.
CONSTITUTION: Correction frequency modulation signal 14 reproduced from a magnetic tape and passing through transducer 4 and the first LPF6 is differentiated by differentiator 7 so that the peak may be detected by zero crossing detector 8, and the frequency characteristic is inverted, and the signal increases the amplitude according as the signal has a higher recording frequency, and therefore, the amplitude is changed in steps according to data patterns. This differentiated signal has the signal waveform of a high frequency attenuated by slice level generator 10 and the second LPF9 provided between level detector 11 and differentiator 7 and is so improved that peak amplitude fluctuation may be uniform. Consequently, the differentiated output which has amplitude fluctuation improved by the slice level, which is not affected by data patterns, is detected by detector 11 surely, so that the signal detection error generation rate can be reduced.
