Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to compress information without destroying global features of a pattern to be processed by deciding upon global inflection points by obtaining intersections specially in a thin-line pattern as main features from the pattern to be processed.
CONSTITUTION: An input pattern is made into thin lines by a thin-line processing part. Next, a local intersection extraction processing part extracts local intersections from the thin-line-processed pattern. Then, stroke trace processing part performs the stroke tracing starting from a local intersection and extracts local inflection points relating the strokes, thereby determining the length of each line element. Then, a global feature extraction processing part discriminates unneeded local inflection points by comparing with a certain threshold on the basis of length information of line elements and determines global intersections, thereby compressing information. Next, all strokes between local intersections are similarly processed to obtain processed pattern 7'.
