Abstract

PURPOSE:To decide the degree of deterioration of the photosensitive body and replace rationally, by measuring the surface potential of the photosensitive body under certain conditions and comparing with the reference value. CONSTITUTION:The surface potential of the part of the original exposed before a developing part 5 on a photosensitive drum 1, or the surface potential of the erased part after erasing is measured. This surface electrometer consists of a detector 8 and a surface potential detecting circuit 9, and the output thereof is compared with the reference voltage from a reference voltage source 11 in a comparator 10, so that the degree of deteioration of organic photoconductor OPC may be judged. A timer circuit 12 is triggered by the output signal from the comparator 10 when the degree of deterioration of OPC reaches the allowable limit, and an OPC winding- up motor 13 is operated for a specified time to wind up an OPC sheet 2, thus replacing the used part thereof.
