Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a high-density and high-sensitivity recording and reproducing possible by exposing both edges of a magnetic substance held on a nonmagnetic substance base and bringing a magnetic recording and reproducing head into contact with the exposed edge part and performing recording or reproducing. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic film 5 coats nonmagnetic substance base 4, and both edge parts 6 of magnetic film 5 and both edge parts 7 of base 4 are in the same plane. A magnetic tape is caused to run in the arrow direction while bringing pole pieces 9 and 10 of magnetic head 8 into contact with upper and lower edge parts of the magnetic tape having this constitution, and magnetization corresponding to applied signals is recorded in the width direction of the magnetic tape. At this time, since each magnetization appears at both edge parts of magnetic film 5, influeneces dependent upon self-demagnetization action are not received considerably, so that each magnetization can be recorded closely to adjavent magnetization. Further, influences of the demagnetic field dependent upon the form are small because the length of each magnetization extends throughout the width of the magnetic tape. Thus, a high density and high-sensitivity recording or reproducing can be performed.
