Abstract

PURPOSE: The water content of an enzyme-containing film consisting of a specific wt% of enzyme and fibroin is made 50W400%, thus imparting high enzyme activity, durability and practical strength to the film.
CONSTITUTION: Degummed silk of cocoon, raw silk or waste silk cloth is dissolved in an aqueous solution containing 5W80wt% of alkali or alkaline earth metal salt and the solution is dialyzed. The resulting solution is adjusted in fibroin concentration to 0.5W20wt% and an appropriate enzyme and 3W300wt%, based on the solid portion of the fibroin, of a water-soluble compound as polyethylene glycol or glycerol are added thereto and uniformly dissolved. The solution is made into films, washed with water to give films which contain 0.2W20, preferably 0.5W15wt% of enzyme, 80W99.9wt% of fibroin and 50W400, preferably 60W300% water content and have 20W1,000 micron thickness.
