Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the reversal development performance, high speed development performance and continuous development performance, and prolong the service life, by combining a toner containing a copolymer having resin properties of specified range and a specified modified Nigrosine dye, with an iron oxide carrier of specified properties.
CONSTITUTION: The composition is shown in formulas I and II (R1 is alkyl of C2W12; R2 is H, CH3; R3 is alkyl of H, C1W4). A copolymer consists of methacrylic base monomer 20W55wt%, styrene base monomer 35W80wt%, and methyl methacrylate up to 10wt%. This copolymer of which softening point is 130W170°C, glass transition temperature 70W90°C and reducing viscosity 0.2W0.7dl/g, and a toner containing modified Nigrosine dye having fatty acid or carboxylic radical as essential ingredient, and an iron oxide powder carrier of almost true spherical form having volume resistivity of 109W12 Ω.cm, apparent specific gravity of 4W5g/cm3 and content of grain size of 50W200μ of 90wt% or more are combined. Thus, a developer suited for use in computer output device in particular is obtained.
